DJ Cow Tse Tung and silenced MC Rasta D'Sasta present a brand new X-Mas mashup, "Ice Ice Harry [DJ Cow Tse Tung's Drug-dealin' Cowboy Edit]", featuring Vanilla Ice's "Ice, Ice Baby" and Gorillaz' "Dirty Harry [Jon Carter Remix]". Listen or download free mp3.
So, as I always say (with a heartfelt thanks to my old friend from ISKCON, who told me about this a long time before some dodgy ABCD decided to make some moolah by using the chant on greeting cards), We Vishnu a Merry Krishna and a Hare New Year, kids.
Tomorrow or day after, look out for pictures of my home-studio setup. Just a Behringer BCD2000, a Novation XIS Synth 25, Stanton DJ headphones, and of course, the usual suspect software - Ableton, FL Studio, Mixcraft etc.
Cow Tse Tung Sound System and MC Rasta D'Sasta present a brand new track, "Ox Fucked Graduate", a quasi-classic-goatrance track. Listen, or download free mp3.
Also contains the following samples of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully's voices respectively (from The X-Files):
"I was drugged."
"I don't trust you."
I don't have a great tale to tell this time around - the initial riff was something I thought I'd make into an ambient track. But the arpegiatted melody tempted me to introduce a classic Goa kick (which I can't get enough of), after which I couldn't set the Sytrus presets to my liking, and ended up with instruments more apt for a Eurodance track instead. No complaints though - I'm happy with the end result. Respect to my Jamaican alter-ego, who was responsible for ensuring we had some elements of dub even in a techno/trance track, MC Rasta D'Sasta.
Don't forget to check out INXS' latest single, "Never Let You Go". Its something Salmonella Dub would've released. But hey, its great to hear a track like this from INXS. I can see the late Michael Hutchence smiling from up above. Great track - love the dubby sound. Features my beloved former motherland, and subtitles in Hindi, besides Channel [V] (India) VJ, Sarah Jane Dias. Watch the video below.
Finally, I've managed to locate lost Indian rock outfit, Colourblind (a duo comprised of Ram Sampath on vocals, keyboards & drums and Siddarth Achrekar on electric & acoustic guitar & bass ) at long, long last. After years of being underground, they've made their tracks available at this location. Check out Blast and the self-titled single if you doubt the quality of their music. Siddarth talks of why the band split...
Once and for all let me clear some facts on this board as to why we never carried on doing what we did. We were rehearsing for a major tour and i had an ear complication. I busted my ear drum which got infected and went deaf for a month in one ear. The doc gave me 2 options. To carry on or risk going deaf permanently overnight in one ear. This is the reason why the Colourblind project was scrapped and which is why we never played live after that.Besides that many of us had other career responsibilities as well and none of us had forseen the album skyrocket in popularity. For us the whole project was a fun thing and not something that we could have built our lives around, especially in India. But it was fun while it lasted. Too bad we couldnt play live which would have been fun, but not all things happen the way they should. Maybe sometime in the future, who knows? Another album perhaps :)
DJ Cow Tse Tung and the Cow Tse Tung Sound System are proud to present a hot new mashup, featuring current chart-toppers, Keane's "Is It Any Wonder" versus techno daddies 808 State's "Invader [Vegas Soul Remix]" in the mashup for gatecrashers, streakers, and other such people who love butting in - "Is It Any INVADER (I know)?".
So what are you waiting for? Listen, or download free mp3 NOW, and take the remix with you the next time you gatecrash a house party, or disrupt a sporting event.
Neil Barnes of Leftfield fame is BACK!! Yes, with "Rhythm and Stealth" collaborator, Nick Rappacioli and new kid on the block, Sarah Johns (great voice, pleasant looking girl), with a brand spankin' new band called "LOSTDOGFOUND". They have a demo track out, "Still You", and it is MIND BLOWING. Major label X, sign 'em up already. "You're STILL YOU."
Back to my crappy old releases, this one's called "Leadership Challenge Dub" - yeah right. I wish I had Peter Costello's balls and John Howard's luck/grip on the seat of ultimate power. Listen, or download free mp3.
I think I need to find a proper direction with my dubs, rather than meander between ambient and psychedelic dub like that of OTT and Bluetech, and then try to move away to classic sounds like that of Lee Perry, King Tubby, Adrian Sherwood et al. Not happy with the sound. This one, for example, was meant to be a Fila Brazillia styled downbeat track, and then I just had to try out all these dub VST plugins I'd recently downloaded. Been a while since I've come up with a track that satisfies me in terms of melody and quality. Even the mashups don't do much to please me at the moment - all too simple, no rhythm, no creativity, too many FX, too much beatmapping. Sucks.
This week, DJ Cow Tse Tung presents some Hispanic sounding dub-house (Nortec, anyone?) by Dreadzone (R.I.P. Steve Roberts) in the form of "First Steps" mashed up with a great tune off the Fifth Element OST (end credits) by Eric Serra, or R.X.R.A., "Little Light of Love". We call the mashup "A Little Light To Take Me Up The Steps", Collodel Kalamunda Edit after this great little Italian ice-cream place (we recommend the pistachio flavored gelato) in the Perth Hills suburb of Kalamunda, where we were today. Listen, or download free mp3.
Ms CTT and myself went to Rebel Sports to get ourselves Cricket Australia flags and little CA ducks - and I went...wow, Glenn McGrath dolls! Next thing I know...SLAP. Yes. Ms CTT it was.
Finally, a very happy birthday to GK. Hope you have a great year ahead.
What can I say - I'm hooked onto these virtual DJ and music productions apps. Instead of making compilations, this Christmas, I'm doing mix CDs for close friends and family.
This particular Arabic flavored mix, that clocks in at 1:02:20 was compiled using the amazingly user-friendly Acoustica MixCraft, and features:
01. Shai No Shai - Caravan 02. Cheb Khaled - Didi 03. Rachid Taha - Ole Ole 04. Rachid Taha - Barra Barra 05. Rachid Taha - Garab 06. Mario Piu/Mauro Picotto- Arabian Pleasure (Vocal Mix) 07. Jean Michel Jarre ft Natacha Atlas - C'est La Vie 08. Dreadzone vs Cheb Mami - Mama (Arabic Remix) 09. Cheb Khaled, Faudel and Rachid Taha - Abdel Kader 10. Rachid Taha - Ya Rayah 11. Cheb Khaled - Aicha 12. Leftfield - Rino's Prayer
I'd include Amr Diab, Dania etc, but their music doesn't appeal to me. I also considered including Alien Soap Opera and Eat Static (Dionysius, HELLO!?), but they're too abstract for the common ear. Might've been an idea to include "Little Light of Love" off the Fifth Element OST.
Another mashup in the wall. Yes, here's the Pink Floyd classic, "Another Brick In The Wall" married with Leftfield's "Space Shanty". We call the lovechild "Another Space Shanty In The Wall [DJ Cow Tse Tung's 100% Flunkie Edit]" . Listen, or download free mp3. We don't need no education. Or do we?
In other news, I really like Nadia Ali, of IIO/Rapture fame. That's critical news, alright?
Continuing with our focus on Middle Eastern music, the Cow Tse Tung Sound System presents an Arabic/rai mashup/remix/bootleg that'll make you say, that'll make your donkey bray Sheikh Yer Bootay. This one's the lovechild of a marriage between prog and dub house pioneers, Leftfield (muchos respectos to Paul Daley and Neil Barnes) and the rai trio of Rachid Taha, Faudel, and Cheb Khaled, all famous names in their own right. Featuring the track "6/8 War" intertwined with our rai singers' collaboration, "Abdel Kader", DJ Cow Tse Tung proudly presents "Legionnaire Abdel Kader's War"... Listen NOW, or download free mp3.
